"Noah's Ark is wonderful. I have a 9 yo King Charles mix with a heart murmur and mitral valve disease. They truly care about his well-being and I will only trust them with the health of my dog. Thank you Noah's Ark, Dr. Orengo and the rest of the team!"

Heart Disease

Like humans, cats and dogs can suffer from a wide range of heart conditions. The veterinarians at Noah's Ark Animal Hospital can examine your pet and if there is a suspicion of heart disease (ie, heart murmur or irregular heart beat,) they can evaluate the heart further by means of digital chest x-rays, an ultrasound of the heart (echocardiogram), or an EKG (electrocardiogram.)  With this additional information, a custom treatment plan can be created specifically for your pet's heart condition.  Common heart conditions we treat include:
  • Chronic Valvular Disease
  • Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy
  • Dilated Cardiomyopathy
  • Pulmonary Hypertension
  • Congestive Heart Failure
Our veterinarians are dedicated to detecting, identifying and treating heart disease at any stage to offer exceptional care for your pet.

Heart Ultrasound Short Video Clips

This video clip shows the "heart beat" of the left ventricle in a cross sectional view in the M-Mode. From this view, our Veterinarians can determine the contractility or "strength" of the main heart chamber and assess its overall strength.

This is a cross sectional view at the level of the aorta and left atrium. Our Veterinarians can capture valuable data to detect heart chamber enlargement which is a sign of serious heart disease. These heart measurements will in turn determine if heart medications are warranted. Heart ultrasounds can be repeated serially over time to monitor the progression of heart disease and to adjust heart medications as needed.

"This is definitely a five star veterinary hospital. Dr. Christine Orengo has a 6th sense when it comes to animals. Our cats relax and let Dr. Orengo administer to them. And, when it comes to diagnosis, she astounds other veterinarians."
